Fractured Verdict is a high-stakes legal thriller centered on Assistant District Attorney Alex Hayes, a seasoned prosecutor put on a case by her boss for unknown reasons. The story begins with the brutal murder of the wife of Edward Martin, a powerful billionaire real estate tycoon. Martin is accused of the crime, but as Alex takes on the prosecution, she quickly realizes the case is anything but straightforward.
L.T. Ryan is best known for writing novels in the thriller, mystery, and suspense genres, so this is a departure for him. His coauthor, Laura Chase, obviously contributed much to the story. Laura Chase is a corporate attorney-turned-author who draws on her courtroom experience to craft the story.
Back to the story itself, the deeper Alex digs, the more she uncovers a tangled web of lies, secrets, and hidden motives. She must navigate not only the complexities of the law but also her own loyalties and a dangerous secret that could upend everything she stands for. As the trial spirals toward its climactic verdict, Alex is forced to confront the truth about justice, the law, and herself.
The novel reads at good pace and it offers plenty of red herrings along the way. It finishes where the reader doesn’t see it coming.
Overall, it’s a solid book in the trial case genre.
Recommended.
