Never Flinch by Stephen King

ree

In Never Flinch, Stephen King comes up with a unique twist, as only King can do. He has a serial killer murdering innocent people as stand-ins for people he holds guilty of wrongdoing. I researched this premise and found no case of this happening in reality. But like many of King’s books, he doesn’t let reality impede a good story.

Stephen King’s murderer is picking off a random assortment of people and leaving a name on each body. What are the names? They are jurors who found guilty an innocent man. Further mystifying the case, for most of the book, the reader knows the killer’s name as Trig. So, why is he called Trig and why is the innocent man’s case so important to him? Detective Izzy Jaynes and Holly Gibney investigate the series of murders looking for answers to those questions.

But we have a seemingly unrelated storyline tracking women's rights activist Kate McKay, targeted by a violent stalker, with Holly acting as her reluctant bodyguard. So, Holly’s bodyguard duty and her investigation are the only links to the serial killer, leaving the reader wondering if they will connect.

Never Flinch combines crime, psychological tension, and social commentary, resulting in a chilling and tightly plotted King thriller.
